The recently introduced Senate immigration bill would allow qualifying agriculture workers to get permanent status faster and likely cheaper than those using the general "registered provisional immigrant" status provisions. It is important to remember, however, that this analysis is based on the original version of the bill, which can be amended and is not yet law. Therefore, the information in this summary is subject to change as this process goes forward.

Highlights (and Lowlights) of the Senate Immigration Bill

The release of the Senate immigration bill has generated more excitement that there will be a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants. Re-registration for Nicaraguan and Honduran TPS Begins

map-NicaraguaHonduras.gifThe Department of Homeland Security has extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Nicaraguans and Hondurans in the United States for an additional 18 months, from July 6, 2013 through January 5, 2015. Nicaraguans and Hondurans who currently have TPS must re-register during the 60-day period, from April 3, 2013 through June 3, 2013, in order to maintain TPS status.
